Website Copy Essentials

Your ideal client is digging your Facebook posts and instagram pics. This is starting to feel like love. She pops over to your website and what does she see?

"Under Construction"

She thinks: hmmm πŸ€”... that's odd. I'm going to have to come back later. She never returns. πŸ˜•

Don't let this happen to you!

Think of your website as your own little corner of the internet. It's the one place you own. Do you want it to feel like a sparse hospital πŸ₯ room or a cozy living πŸ›‹ room?

There are 3 main pages on your website, the Home Page, About Page, and Sales Page. I'm here to share the deets on what each page is for so you can get your website DONE and up in the world.

My #1 site copy philosophy is: there is no magic formula.

Done is better than perfect. Iterations are your friend.

That said, let's dig right in.

Home Page

Goal: To provide a quick overview of who you are and what you are all about.

Things you can include:

  • Elevator Pitch/Sentence (1-2 concise sentences)
  • 2-3 bullets (100-150 words) - answer the questions:
    • What do you stand for?
    • What can’t you stand?
    • Think of these bullets as the 2-3 things visitors must know about you!
  • Opt In box/description of free offer - capture those emails!
    • One sentence about what the free offer provides - what problem does it solve?
    • Use simple and clear language, pretend like you are talking to a kid

About Page

Goal: Demonstrate why are you the woman for the job RIGHT NOW.

  • 250-1000 words (again, this is a loose guideline)
  • No need to go into your life story, focus on the relevant facts
  • Do include formal qualifications or info on past work experience if relevant

Sales Page

Goal: Coach your client into buying your offer. Forgive them for past mistakes. Make them FEEL something.

You want this page to stand on it's own in case your customer doesn't view anything else, so it includes elements from the other 2 pages.

Things you can include:

  • Story intro, relatable (150-250 words)
    • Tell a story that hooks in the reader and makes them feel (hint, I did this on the first 3 lines of this page!)
  • Mini About Me, can re-purpose from about page or homepage (100-200 words)
  • Offering details (500-1500 words)
    • Use bullets!
    • Content (topics/modules)
    • Logistics (when/where/how)
    • Price
  • Testimonials (ask clients to speak to specific results achieved from working with you)
    • These can be sprinkled throughout the page
  • Optional items:
    • FAQ (a few commonly asked questions you get from prospects)
      • Blast through the common objections!
    • How the process works (250-500 words)
    • Results that can be excepted (250-400 words)
    • Discovery call buttons and/or cart buttons
      • Sprinkle these in a few spots, usually after the offering details and at the end

There you have it! Again, remember:

Done is better than perfect. Iterations are your friend.
