The cure for writer's block

You're sitting there staring at the text cursor. Resistance pulls you into the same familiar procrastination schtick. You just have to wash that dirty dish, grab a La Croix, and take out the garbage. Gosh, there is a lot that needs to be done other than writing that sales page!

I've been there.

Writer's Block is not fun. You were supposed to get words on the page yesterday but NOTHING is coming out. 😩  Why is it so hard to come up with words to describe the package you dreamed up?!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. The cure to Writer's Block is to....

Yep, just write. I know you're probably thinking I'm a total smart aleck "Hollie, how the eff am I supposed to write if I have WRITER'S BLOCK?"

Let me explain... when I say WRITE, it does not have to be "good." (those are air quotes)

Just get the words flowing.

I'm going to let you in on another secret...

My first drafts tend to look nothing like my final drafts.

Editing is where the magic happens. ✨ Once you have something on paper, you can tweak and improve it to your heart's content.

Writing gets easier when you remove the pressure of writing something final draft ready right out of the gate.

Next time Writer's Block strikes, here are some easy-peasy ways to start getting words on paper:

  1. Create an outline. Even writing "1. Intro paragraph" counts as WRITING.
  2. For visual folks, you can use a technique I call the Pyramid Outline. Start with one word - the feeling you want to create in your reader through your piece of writing, then keep branching it out into more and more ideas. For example, I want my audience to feel "empowerment," I branch that into 2 ideas "freedom from overwhelm" and "positive self belief," then I branch each of those into 2 tangible tips. Before I know it, I have an article I can call "4 ways to feel Empowered TODAY."
  3. Speak what you want to say, then transcribe the recording into writing.
  4. When all else fails just write gibberish on the paper. No really. And I'm talking with pen and paper, not the keyboard. There is something about good ol fashioned handwriting that unlocks the mind! You have my permission to write "Hollie is making me do this" over and over again if you want to! 😝

💜  Hollie
